Waqrapukara

Waqrapukara is a remarkable archaeological site located in the Apurímac region of Peru, at an altitude of approximately 3,500 masl. Its name, which translates as “town of horns” in Quechua, refers to the distinctive rock formations that surround it. This ancient complex is famous for its impressive stone constructions, which include temples, plazas, and ceremonial platforms, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the Andean civilizations.

It is estimated that Waqrapukara was an important religious and administrative center during the pre-Inca and Inca periods, as evidenced by its architecture and urban layout. Its design includes elements that suggest its use for ceremonies and rituals, adding spiritual value to the site.

The Waqra Pukara Full Day Tour will take you to one of the ancient Inca temples located in the Andes mountain range in Cusco. This trekking experience will also immerse you in an area where travelers don't usually go, taking you beyond the traditional hikes in Cusco.

Waqra Pukara may have been a fortress, sanctuary, or astronomical observatory—these are the interpretations for this enigmatic monument of classic Inca architecture that stands at 4,300 masl in the depths of the Apurímac River canyon south of the city of Cusco.
